PS4 Setup
Cronus Zen supports all versions of the PlayStation 4 console, and all official DualShock 4 controllers.
This page has everything you need to setup your Cronus Zen to a DualShock 4 controller. You must use Zen Studio , and Zen's firmware must be upgraded to .
🚫 Important
Every setting on this page for the PS4 must be applied before using the GamePack. If you fail to match ANY of these settings, the GamePack WILL NOT WORK!
Also make sure your controller is fully charged when using with Cronus Zen as there's not enough power for charging (this can be resolved by using the powered Cronus MK USB Switch).
- Connect Cronus Zen to your Windows PC using the PROG USB port.
- Navigate to the Device tab.
- Set the Output Protocol to PLAYSTATION 4.
- Then navigate to the Programmer tab, select the Apex BEAM2.0 XBOX/PS4 GamePack, drag it to the first free memory slot, then program (see below for video demo).
- That's it! You can now unplug the PROG USB cable from the Zen.

If you see an error saying "Failed to Retrieve Packs", it means your ISP is blocking the Cronus server, so you will need to use a VPN service. There are many free ones, we recommend the Google Chrome plugin VeePN.
The Cronus Zen controls all data between the console and the controller, including Bluetooth. So the PlayStation 4 has to have Wired Communication enabled in the console's settings.
For the PS4, this option is only available when using a DualShock 4 CUH-ZCT2 (known as DS4 v2).
PlayStation 4: Settings > Devices > Controllers > Communication Method: Use USB Cable
This makes sure your controller does not power off while connected to the Zen, ensuring seamless performance.
PlayStation 4: Settings > Power Save Settings > Set Time Until Controllers Turn Off: Do Not Turn Off
If these in-game settings are not applied, the Apex BEAM2.0 GamePack will not function correctly.
- Hold OPTIONS to open the in-game menu.
- Press CROSS to enter the in-game settings.
- Navigate to Controllers.
- Set the in-game Vibration to ON.
All special editions and variations of the official Sony DualShock 4 are compatible with Cronus Zen (both USB & Bluetooth supported).

DUALSHOCK 4 V2 SUPPORT
There are two DualShock 4 models DS4v1 and DS4v2. While v1 does great for basic gaming, it does not support audio (no headsets and no DS4 speaker) and will not work as an AUTH controller for PS4 crossover setups.
Meanwhile, the DS4v2 has your back, fully supporting all gaming, audio, and crossover setup needs. Spot a blue lightbar on the touchpad? That's a DS4v2!
This guide will show you how to connect any controller to a PlayStation 4 console.
Here are the steps for setting up a DualShock 4 controller to a PS4 using a Cronus Zen.
- Connect a DualShock 4 controller to Zen's A1 USB port (preferably the DS4 v2).
- Connect the Zen to the PS4 from its rear CONSOLE/PC USB port and wait for 5 secs.Note: If the DualShock 4 controller isn't working, make sure it is fully charged and powered on, then press the small blue reset button on the bottom of the Zen.
- That's it! 🙂
- IMPORTANT: If you have a PlayStation 4 Pro, the Zen must be connected to the rear USB port of the console because for some reason, the front USB ports do not provide enough power.
One of Zen's major features is being able to use almost any controller, or mouse & keyboard on any console. All you need is a DualShock 4 v2 (CUH-ZCT2X) controller connected to A1, and then any supported controller, or mouse & keyboard, can connect to A2 and A3.
PS4 Adaptive Triggers
This GamePack gives you a world first exclusive - PS5 Adaptive Triggers on the PS4- which is a PlayStation 5 exclusive feature. Well, it used to be. 😝
To play with a PS5 DualSense controller, you'll need a DualShock 4 v2 (CUH-ZCT2X) controller always connected to A1, then the DualSense can be connected to A2 or A3. It's that simple. 🙂
- DualShock 4 Controller (USB):
- Connect to the A1 USB port. That's it. 😁
- Crossover Gameplay:
- A DualShock 4 v2 (CUH-ZCT2X) controller must always be connected to A1 while using any crossover device on a PlayStation 4 console.
- Other devices such as non-PS4® controllers, mice, keyboards etc. use the A3 USB port, and also the A2 port if you need to connect two devices.
- You can also use a secondary keypad at the same time as your controller, giving you access to dozens of assigned weapon shortcuts.
- Bluetooth Pairing:
- Tap Zen's Bluetooth pairing button (P2) for pairing mode, then...
- DualSense Controllers: No Bluetooth support. Must use USB.
- Nintendo Switch Controllers: Hold down Sync buttons for pairing mode.
- DualShock 4 Controllers: Hold down SHARE + PS for pairing mode.
- Wireless Adapters:
- To achieve wireless support for Xbox controllers, the Xbox Wireless Adapter is required. Plug it into A3, connect an Xbox controller to A2 for a few seconds, then unplug. Soon, the LED on the Adapter and controller will turn solid white, indicating successful pairing.
- Other controllers with their own custom wireless adapter, such as the Astro® C40, can also be connected to A3.
You can now follow the In-Game Settings instructions, then check out The M.O.D.s page to see what's available and how to use them. There's also a Quick Start guide if you want to set a baseline that guarantees everything is working 100% in just a few minutes, and finally the Changelog (DONE) where you can see information on each update.
🚫 Troubleshooting
If you find your weapon is not beaming, even though all your in-game settings are correct, don't panic! After incorporating some great community feedback, we've identified a straightforward fix which should be done before programming a new GamePack.
If this doesn't resolve whatever issue you are having, then there could be a problem with a setting in the game itself, so we recommend that you erase the saved data:
- PS Button > Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Select Saved Data (PS4), Select Console Storage > select Delete, Tick the game title and select Delete.
- Zen Studio > Programmer Tab - Program the latest version of the GamePack to the first memory slot of your Zen.
- Match up all the In-Game Settings and you'll be BEAMING in no time!
