Ballistic Curves
This guide is intended to provide a detailed explanation of Ballistic Curves and its benefits for players who use a mouse and keyboard on video game consoles.
Essentially, a Ballistic Curve determines how sensitive the aim reticle is to the movement of the mouse, which can help to improve precision and aiming experience when playing on a video game console with a mouse and keyboard.
🧮 THE MATH
The mathematical function that is used to create a Ballistic Curve is known as an "acceleration curve". This curve is used to adjust the sensitivity of the aim reticle to the movement of the mouse, so that players can fine-tune the way their cursor or aim reticle moves in the game to better match their playstyle or preferences.
The acceleration curve maps the input values (mouse movement) to the output values (aim reticle movement) in a non-linear way. This means that small movements of the mouse result in small movements of the aim reticle, while larger movements of the mouse result in larger movements of the aim reticle.
Additionally, some games offer different curves for different types of weapons, or for different types of movement (e.g., ADS vs. HIP). Players can also choose to create their own custom curves in Zen Studio or choose from a list of professionally made MK profiles, available here: Importing MK Profiles.
The most notable benefits of using a mouse on a console with Ballistic Curves include:
- Increased Precision & Accuracy: A mouse allows for more precise aiming compared to a traditional console controller, which can be especially beneficial in first-person shooter games.
- Faster Target Acquisition: With the ability to quickly and smoothly aim, players using a mouse with ballistic curves can acquire targets faster than those using a traditional controller.
- More Control Over Aim: Ballistic curves give players the ability to fine-tune the way their aim behaves, allowing for a more personalized experience.
- Reduced Recoil: Ballistic curves can help players mitigate the recoil of weapons in-game, making it easier to stay on target.
- Increased Gaming Performance: The improved precision, target acquisition and control provided by using a mouse with ballistic curves can result in a better overall gaming performance.
- Cronus Advantage: By having the advantage of Cronus Zen, players can feel more confident in their abilities and play more aggressively, leading to more wins.
The Zen Studio software gives you full customization of ballistic curves, allowing sharing the full curve code with the community, or customizing each point without any coding knowledge.
Professionally made ballistic Curve profiles are freely available to download from the main Cronus Zen User Guide.
To put it simply, when using a mouse and keyboard on a console, Ballistic Curves can help you adjust the way your aim reticle moves in the game to better match your playstyle or preferences. For example, a player might want a more sensitive crosshair that moves quickly with small movements of the mouse, or a less sensitive crosshair that moves more slowly with larger movements of the mouse.
This is what the source code of handling Ballistic Curves looks like. Note that all button labels match their corresponding buttons on other controllers. For example, if the script says XB1_RX (Right Analog Stick - Horizontal Axis), it will also press the Right Analog Stick (R3 - Horizontal Axis) on a PlayStation controller.
